The El Rio foundation is the charity arm of the award winning El Rio hostel. We work to improve the lives of children and adults living in and around the small town of Buritaca, Magdalena, Colombia.
We sponsor a school, run community English lessons, children’s sports clubs, run a recycling programme and provided 1200 food packages to deprived local families during the Corona virus pandemic.
Our next big project aims to inspire local school children, under the expert guidance of our head of reforestation Edgar Jiminez, to plant 2350 trees in the land around the hostel. The participants will learn about the importance of biodiversity and how to sustainably manage natural resources, wildlife and ecosystems with the overall aim of giving them the skills to identify, develop and implement their own solutions for their environmental challenges, both now and in the future.
